Fitness update

As promised, on Monday Andreas and I tested each other for Navy-required fitness. I'm thrilled to say that I meet or exceed all the criteria, with one caveat: I did exactly the number of required situps, leaving no room for error. I'll keep working at it.

I'm about a month early on meeting my goal.

This would not have been possible without having Andreas as my gym buddy for three semesters. We keep each other from defaulting. Alas, Andreas is graduating this semester, and his life will be in flux. What he does and where he goes will depend entirely on what job he gets.

Now my biggest challenge will be to continue to keep myself in shape. With distractions like Netflix, food, and Slashdot—as well as self-convincing excuses such as having homework or bad weather—I don't know if I can do it.

I tried running 1.5 miles in 12 minutes. Holy crap, I barely did a mile, and had to stop and walk for awhile. Kudos to you for the stuff you can do.

Just a few months ago I was in the same boat. I don't know what all muscles are involved in running, but I attribute my success to working on my abs.

Thanks for the good wishes. If you were in town, you could join our gym gang.

I think I am in town - I moved back to Dallas awhile back. But I'm not much for going to the gym, or exercising with other people. I prefer to do it alone, with my iPod cranked up and my glasses off so I can pretend nobody sees me looking like a jackass.
